Political realism is a general theory within political science focusing on the principle interest defined as power. The theory?s mutual standpoint is that states are inspired by power politics meaning that military and economic power or security stands in the centre while moral and ethics are placed in the periphery. This essay?s purpose is to analyze realism which helps to understand the development and change of the perspective.

This essay focuses on the theory of classical realism from two points of views. Realism is often told to be quite immoral and cynical and only interested in the power relations among nations. In the first part I am arguing that this picture is wrong and should be revised. By using the ethical theories of deontology and utilitarianism I am arguing that both these perspectives can be used to analyse classical realism. By defining a value that should be guiding one can assert that realism is a good moral theory.

Finns det värdefakta? Kan vi ha kunskap i moralfrågor? Finns det över huvud taget rätt och fel i moralfrågor? Med dessa frågor i bakhuvudet vill författaren undersöka ett vanligt argument mot moralisk realism i allmänhet, och Michael Huemers variant av moralisk realism i synnerhet. Detta antirealistiska argument säger att det är så pass vanligt med oenigheter i moralfrågor och att den bästa förklaringen till detta är att moralen är subjektiv. Argumentet säger vidare att etiken lider av bristande konvergens beträffande upplösta etiska oenigheter över tid, jämfört med exempelvis naturvetenskapen. Detta faktum verkar, menar vissa antirealister, ytterligare tala emot att det existerar värdefakta.

What drove me to write this paper is the will to  examine if there is a philosophically and scientifically viable  alternative foundation for an objective morality other than what we like to refer to as "God". The  American philosopher and neuroscientist Sam Harris presents in his book The Moral Landscape a thesis for an objective morality based on science in which he states that  science can determine human values. The purpose of this paper is to perform a theoretical trial of The Moral Landscape, examining Harris' thesis and it's relations to the philosophical obstacles that stands in its way, these being mainly the famous philosophical principle "Hume's Law" and G.E. Moore's "Naturalistic Fallacy and Open Question Argument" and thus will serve as my main theoretical foundation. The results of my study was not conclusive since Harris in fact doesn't succeed in bridging the gap between facts and values on a scientific ground.

The aim with this paper is to study Karl Popper?s view on realism and relativism. Further aim is to see whether those ideas have been consistent over the years. The paper argues that Popper since his first interest in philosophy has taken a realistic and antirelativistic attitude. Only his arguments for this position have been developed to meet his critics.Common sense speaks for realism but can neither be proven nor refuted.

Moral education can be a path to develop this knowl-edge; however, it is possible that the moral education gets more obscure when it is not a separate subject. The purpose with this essay is to examine the need of moral education and the presence and the framing of moral education of seven teachers in religion. The purpose is also to analyse where and how the moral education should be included in the curriculum. The survey was conducted through qualitative interviews with a hermeneutic approach.

I lagbaserade, tävlingsinriktade dataspel är det viktigt att det är tydligt vem som är medspelare och vem som är motspelare, och jag har undersökt olika verktyg som en koncepttecknare kan använda för att uppnå detta i sin karaktärsdesign. Höga krav på realism begränsar dock hur dessa verktyg kan användas, och det är detta motsatsförhållande mellan krav på realism och krav på tydlighet som jag har undersökt i detta arbete. Jag har också försökt omsätta detta i praktiken genom att rita 46 karaktärskoncept till ett spelkoncept, med målet att det tydligt skall framgå vilka karaktärer som hör ihop och vilka som är varandras motståndare. Jag har kommit fram till att höga krav på realism avsevärt försvårar och begränsar hur tydlig en karaktär kan göras, och min slutsats är att spelkonceptet skulle tjäna i tydlighet om kraven på realism skulle lättas..

Med dagens allt mer visuellt realistiska dataspel ställs även allt högre krav på spelens ljudläggning. Detta arbete undersöker på vilket sätt helhetsintrycket av dataspel förändras beroende på realismen i ljudläggningen. Med hjälp av teorier om egenskaper hos akustiskt ljud har tre stycken filmklipp ljudlagts med så hög realism som möjligt. Samma filmklipp har sedan ljudlagts med låg realism. Försökspersoner har sedan fått se filmklippen och höra de olika ljudläggningarna och besvarat frågor angående upplevelsen av dessa filmklipp..

Abstract   The actions of Sweden during the second world war has been richly discussed over the years. Sweden declared itself neutral in the war between the great powers but did not manage to maintain its neutrality. The nature of neutrality has often been discussed; whether it is of a idealistic or more pragmatic nature. Realism, a theory of international relations, would argue that it is of a more pragmatic nature, hence these two are in opposition. Realism also takes credit in claiming to explain how and why a state chooses to act in a situation. The aim of this essay was to, by examining specific decisions made by the swedish government during the Second World War, come to a conclusion whether or not Sweden?s proclaimed neutrality was of idealistic or pragmatic nature, and thereby possibly coming to a conclusion about neutrality in large.It was also to examine the worth of realism as an explanatory theory by applying it to this specific case; to examine its validity.The study was conducted using a qualitative method; presenting empiric facts and then by using a decision model interpreting the actions and results from a realist perspective. The study concludes that realism has explanatory power, although not a complete one.

The aim of this essay is to find out how students at Malmö University relate to moral responsibility in their private consumption. I am going to test moral theories in order to find out if researchers have a too moral starting point in comparison to everyday use. Through a critical research, free from valuation, I also aim to raise a discussion about moral responsibility which should lead to fair trade in the long run. My essay discusses the subject out of a Swedish city, Malmö - a place where many stores, cafés and restaurant are using moral responsibility as a step in their marketing. The purpose of our study is to get more knowledge about how moral dilemmas affect social workers in their work. This because we find that a big part of social work involves ethic reflections and that is why we find it important for social workers to have knowledge about how they should and can think and act in these situations. Ethic statements exist for social workers to use in their work but we haven?t found any guidelines for concrete situations and that?s why we decided to study this area. Questions we want to answer are how do the social workers define moral dilemmas in social work? How do the social workers deal with moral dilemmas in their work? How do moral dilemmas affect social workers in their work? This is a qualitative study with interviews from seven social workers from one social service office although they are from different units.

Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka om utrikespolitiken som USA förde under George W. Bushs tid i Vita Huset har likheter med det realistiska eller liberala teoriperspektivet inom internationella relationer. Den samlade utrikespolitiken under en president sammanfattas ofta i en doktrin där de centrala frågorna som administrationen har ägnat sig åt sammanfattas och sätts i perspektiv mot andra doktriner. Två kända doktriner tidigare i USA:s historia är till exempel Monroe- och Trumandoktrinen. För att ta fram de centrala delarna i Bushdoktrinen och hitta den grund som doktrinen vilar på har tal och dokument som Vita Huset utfärdat använts som underlag.
